Fraud Detection for Employment Documents
When employment can’t be verified through payroll connections, databases, or employer outreach, documents are used as a final verification method. Self-employment verifications also rely on document review.
Starting August 17, 2026, all employment verification documents (including 1099s, pay stubs, and W-2s) are automatically scanned for signs of potential fraud or tampering.
What you’ll see:
Documents are evaluated against 30+ fraud signals to identify potential manipulation. Things like the numbers in the paystub don't add up, or the document was generated with software known to produce fake docs.
Documents with potential issues are flagged for your review in the candidate report and marked “Review.”
Each flagged document includes a summary of the findings, tailored to the specific document and the signals detected.
This gives your team more visibility into potential document fraud so you can make more informed hiring decisions. This update does not apply to DOT employment or international employment.
